July 9, 2026 1 min read Full Chaos 13 ingredients

Rising from the ashes like Bradbury's mythical bird, this Moroccan-spiced chicken is deliberately charred on the outside, tender within—a celebration of rebirth through fire.

Ingredients

0/13 ready
  • 4 chicken leg quarters
  • 2 tablespoons harissa paste
  • 2 tablespoons pomegranate molasses
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried rose petals
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Fresh cilantro and pomegranate seeds for garnish

The Story & Steps

In Bradbury's dystopia, books burn but ideas survive. This chicken honors the phoenix that appears in the story—a symbol of renewal. The intentionally charred exterior gives way to succulent meat, just as destruction can lead to rebirth.

Instructions

  1. Combine harissa, pomegranate molasses, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, rose petals, salt, and pepper in a bowl to create marinade.
  2. Score chicken pieces deeply and rub marinade all over, working it into the cuts. Marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat grill to high heat or oven to 425°F.
  4. If grilling, place chicken skin-side down and cook for 8-10 minutes until well charred. Flip and continue cooking until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. If roasting, place chicken on a wire rack over a baking sheet. Roast for 45-50 minutes until skin is deeply charred and crispy.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and pomegranate seeds.

Serve this on a bed of couscous or flatbread, and remember: some things are worth burning for, but most things are worth preserving.
