Ingredients

0/12 ready
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons baobab powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons nigella seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Flaky sea salt for topping

The Story & Steps

The Little Prince warned that baobab trees, if left unchecked, would split his tiny planet apart. These crackers tame the mighty baobab into something delicate and crisp—a reminder that even the most overwhelming things can be made manageable.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix both flours, baobab powder, flaxseed, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Add olive oil and work into flour mixture with your fingers until crumbly.
  4. Gradually add cold water, mixing until dough comes together. It should be pliable but not sticky.
  5. Divide dough in half. Roll each portion very thin (about 1/16 inch) on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Use cookie cutters to cut into shapes—stars and small circles work well, echoing the Little Prince's asteroid.
  7. Transfer to prepared baking sheets. Prick each cracker with a fork several times.
  8. Brush lightly with water and sprinkle with sesame seeds, nigella seeds, thyme, and flaky salt.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes until crisp and lightly golden.
  10. Cool completely on wire racks. Store in an airtight container.

Share these with someone you want to tame—or who has tamed you.
