Ingredients

0/11 ready
  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon spirulina powder
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or agave
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Ice cubes as needed

The Story & Steps

In the film Soylent Green, the year 2022 brought food shortages and mysterious green wafers that sustained the masses. The shocking truth about those wafers? Well, we won't spoil it. But this vibrant green smoothie is guaranteed to be 100% plant-based and packed with nutrients for our own uncertain future.

Instructions

  1. Add coconut water to your blender first to prevent sticking.
  2. Add spinach and kale, blending on high until completely smooth.
  3. Add banana, pineapple, and avocado. Blend until creamy.
  4. Add spirulina powder, hemp seeds, honey, and lime juice.
  5. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until completely smooth and vibrant green.
  6. Add ice cubes as desired for thickness and blend again.
  7. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Optional Garnish: A lime wheel and a small placard reading "Tuesday" or "Thursday" to mimic the color-coded Soylent wafers from the film.

Fun fact: Spirulina is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on Earth and has been proposed as a sustainable food source for future space colonies. So in a way, we're all preparing for a sci-fi future.
