Ingredients

0/10 ready
  • 2 cups pre-cut stir fry vegetables
  • 1 lb pre-cooked chicken strips or tofu
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Cooked rice for serving

The Story & Steps

Standing over a hot stove, constantly stirring, is exhausting. But stir fry doesn't have to mean standing. With an electric skillet at counter or table height, you can create this takeout favorite from a seated position.

Setup for Success

Place your electric skillet on a heatproof surface at a comfortable height—a sturdy table, lowered counter section, or even a desk. Make sure you have everything within arm's reach before you start. This is mise en place with purpose.

Your Seated Station Needs:

  • Electric skillet plugged in and ready
  • All ingredients in small bowls arranged around you
  • Long-handled wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Serving bowls and plates nearby

Cooking Process

  1. Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Heat electric skillet to 375°F (medium-high). Add vegetable oil.
  3. Add vegetables. Using a long-handled spoon, stir every 30 seconds for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add pre-cooked protein. Stir to combine and heat through, about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour sauce over everything. Stir constantly for 1 minute until sauce thickens and coats everything.
  6. Turn off heat. Serve directly from the skillet onto plates with rice, or transfer to bowls using your long-handled spoon.

Rebel Wisdom: Electric skillets are underrated accessibility tools. They bring the cooking surface to you, eliminate the need to reach over high stove burners, and provide excellent temperature control. Consider keeping one set up if you cook regularly while seated.
