The Story & Steps

SpongeBob SquarePants has been flipping Krabby Patties at the Krusty Krab for decades, and while Mr. Krabs guards his secret formula jealously, we've developed a version that captures the spirit of this beloved animated burger using real crab—because why not make a Krabby Patty with actual crab?

Instructions

  1. First, prepare the secret formula sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, paprika, and garlic powder. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, 1/2 cup of the panko breadcrumbs, beaten egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, chives, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to avoid breaking up the crab too much.
  3. Form the mixture into 8 small patties, about 2.5 inches in diameter, suitable for slider buns.
  4. Place the remaining 1/2 cup panko in a shallow dish. Gently press each patty into the panko to coat both sides.
  5. Refrigerate the patties for 30 minutes to help them hold together during cooking.
  6. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  7. Fry the patties in batches for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Toast the slider buns lightly in the residual oil or in a separate pan.
  9. Assemble your Krabby Patties: spread secret formula sauce on both halves of each bun, then layer with lettuce, a crab patty, tomato slice, and pickles.
  10. Secure each slider with a toothpick and serve immediately.

These are best enjoyed with friends while declaring "I'm ready! I'm ready!" No spatula flipping skills required, though enthusiasm is always encouraged. Serve with seaweed salad and coral bits—or, you know, regular fries work too.
