Ingredients

0/9 ready
  • 4 cups cream soda
  • 1/2 cup butterscotch syrup
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butterscotch syrup (for topping)
  • Ground cinnamon for garnish

The Story & Steps

After a cold day of classes at Hogwarts, nothing warms a young wizard quite like a foaming mug of butterbeer. This beloved beverage has been served in Hogsmeade for generations, and now you can recreate the magic in your own muggle kitchen.

For the Butterbeer Base

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butterscotch syrup, butter, and salt over medium heat.
  2. Stir constantly until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  4. Pour the butterscotch mixture into a large pitcher.
  5. Add the cream soda and stir gently to combine. Refrigerate until cold.

For the Foam

  1. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
  2. Add powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons butterscotch syrup.
  3. Continue whipping until stiff peaks form.

To Serve

Pour the chilled butterbeer into mugs, filling about 3/4 full. Top generously with the butterscotch foam and dust with a pinch of cinnamon. Serve immediately with a knowing smile.

For an adult version, add a splash of butterscotch schnapps or spiced rum to your mug before pouring.
